Water purification
 
If you buy one of those gallon portable water purification things that have the replaceable filters are those good for filtering most water. Say a stream that has bad bacteria in it.

Sorry im a noob to preps and just curious

No that won't kill bacteria, you can use that in combination with bleach or iodine, but why not just get a good filter.
British berkefeld or aqua rain for family quantities or a good backpacking filter for solo.

No it won't work on bacteria, and neither on nasty chemicals (THMs, benzene, drug residues, etc.etc. you don't wanna know).

Carbon filters will absorb organic chemical contaminants.
